Take the Magic Out of Information Technology A Workshop
Improve communication between IT and your Business
This workshop is different from any other material on IT that you've ever seen. It's a participant discussion of some of the fundamental issues facing your IT organization, together with advice and action items to both IT and business on how to better deal with these issues. It's not a technical workshop I don't talk about computer technology at all. Instead, I use common sense physical analogies to communicate the challenges facing IT, and talk about how a business can make better use of its IT people by dealing with these challenges explicitly instead of just leaving them to the IT organization to resolve.
The goal of the workshop is to have both business and IT people learn about the hidden traps that IT organizations fall into, and how to get around those traps to dramatically improve the way that IT organizations perform. Part of that performance increase comes from self-awareness for the IT people, and another part comes from a different perception of IT on the part of the business people who work with IT. Together, the difference is phenomenal. So phenomenal, in fact, that I guarantee results: Your IT effectiveness will increase dramatically as a result of this workshop, or I will refund your workshop fee.
My typical workshop size is 20 people, optimally made up of 10 IT people and 10 business people. However, if you have enough space in your location for larger breakout groups, then I can accommodate up to 30 people in a workshop. The workshop fee is $4000 no matter how many people attend, and I'll also ask you to reimburse me for any travel expenses if you're outside Atlanta. For twenty people that's just $200 per person, a pretty small investment for the huge improvement you'll get in the relationship between business people and IT people.
| The workshop fee is $4000* + travel from Atlanta. |

Your request doesn't commit you to a workshop; it just starts a process for me to contact you to discuss it. |
* Fee is for a workshop in the continental United States. Contact me via email to discuss a workshop outside the continental United States.
Money Back Guarantee
As with all MakingITclear® services, this workshop is risk-free. If you don't feel that the workshop makes a significant difference in your company, then I'll refund your workshop fee (travel expenses still apply).
Don't have the time for a one-day workshop?
I'll be happy to come to your company's location anywhere in the continental United States* and do a one-hour or two-hour version of the "Take the Magic Out of Information Technology" presentation. It's not as effective as the workshop because it's not nearly as interactive and participative, but it will identify the primary issues that prevent most IT and business people from working together, and this will help lay the foundation for a more successful IT relationship going forward.

Background
|
|
For a couple of years now, I've been giving a presentation to various IT and business groups on the "Secrets of IT." Based on overwhelmingly positive feedback, I've built on the presentation material to put together a one-day workshop for IT and business people to help them communicate and work together better.
If you've seen my presentation at the STC meeting, the SIM meeting, the UGA Executive MBA program, or the keynote at the University System of Georgia Annual Computing Conference, then you already know a lot of the concepts I'll use. Now I've taken an updated version of that presentation and added group exercises at various points throughout the day. In the last exercise, the participants in the workshop will put together a list of things they want to change in their professional lives as a result of what they have learned.
The result is an incredible experience for the attendees, and a dramatic improvement in your IT effectiveness.
